The classic Logistics Execution - Transportation (LE-TRA) module is dead. While compatibility packs allow it to limp along until 2030, no new innovations are being delivered. If your business actively plans transportation, every S/4HANA upgrade must now pivot to embedded Transportation Management (TM).

> **Applicable Systems:** SAP S/4HANA (Embedded Basic TM). **Verification Link:** SAP Note 2270199 - S4TWL - Transportation Management (LE-TRA)

**\[SCOPE BOUNDARY: WHO ACTUALLY NEEDS THIS?\]** Does every S/4HANA customer need to configure Basic TM? **No.** If your company operates simple logistics—meaning you process Outbound Deliveries (`LF`) directly to Post Goods Issue (`PGI`) without grouping deliveries into physical trucks, planning complex routes, or calculating freight costs within SAP—you can bypass TM completely. However, Basic TM becomes an absolute architectural **mandatory** requirement in two specific scenarios:

1. **The LE-TRA Migration:** You historically used standard Shipment Documents (`VT01N`) and Freight Costing (`VI01`) in SAP ECC. You cannot map this in S/4HANA without TM.
2. **The EWM ASR Trigger:** You are implementing modern SAP EWM and want to use the new Advanced Shipping & Receiving (ASR) framework.

**\[THE ARCHITECTURE\]** For those who must adopt it, the standard delivery-to-shipment flow is entirely rewritten:

1. Instead of the classic Shipment Document (`VT01N`), S/4HANA SD Outbound Deliveries now automatically trigger the creation of **Freight Units (FU)**.
2. These Freight Units are planned into a **Freight Order (FO)** (`/SCMTMS/FREIGHT_ORDER`).
3. **Cross-Module Integration:** This Freight Order is the foundational object for ASR. You cannot pack a truck in modern EWM without an active TM Freight Order driving the physical execution.
